Ophthalmologist Javier Rodríguez. Interview:
- Since when have you been a user of magnification and why did you start using it? What type of loupes have you used so far?
- I have always operated with a microscope, but in special surgeries in the field of oculoplastic surgery, its use is very uncomfortable, so I tried loupes with very satisfactory results.
- What benefits do you think the use of Galileo 3.2X loupes offers for ocular surgery? Is there any particular surgery where you find the loupes especially useful?
- The loupes are very comfortable to use in eyelid surgery, but where I find them most useful is in lacrimal duct surgery.
- Do you use loupes in all the surgeries you perform?
- I alternate their use with the microscope.
Use of wireless light devices:
- In addition to the advantages of a higher level of detail in the area to be treated, what other benefits does the use of this new loupe system provide? Has it changed your ergonomics and way of working? In what ways have you noticed it?
- I have found a use that simplifies postoperative control of patients operated on for refractive surgery, and it is that I use the loupes instead of the usual biomicroscope (slit lamp) in the pre-high control of patients to ensure that everything is correct.
- What is your overall opinion of its quality and effectiveness?
- I find them to be of good quality with high visual contrast.
- Do you use Galileo loupes combined with a wireless, coaxial lighting system? What advantages would you highlight of this lighting system?
- It greatly facilitates visualization and optimizes contrast for microsurgery.
- Do you think the use of loupes can improve precision and safety in ocular surgery?
- Undoubtedly. And that reassures and gives more confidence to the surgeon.
- What advice would you give to a colleague who is starting to use magnification?
- Be patient at the beginning to get used to the focal length of your loupes, and if possible, use wireless light devices.
